docxEmerald Class Newsletter

Welcome back!  We hope you all had a lovely summer holiday and are settling well into your new classes!

English:

This year, we will be teaching phonics, reading and writing skills through the Read Write Inc programme. This provides a structured and systematic approach to teaching literacy. Children will learn and revisit key words and sounds daily. We have also been looking at poetry, the use of adjectives and imaginative description. To find out more about Read Write Inc, visit the website, which is: www.ruthmiskin.com

Themed Learning:

Our whole school theme this half term is doors. We have found some miniature doors at school and the children are using their imagination to describe who lives behind them.

Maths:

In maths this half term we will be focusing on number.  We will be counting to and across 100 in steps of 1, 2, 3, 5 and 10. We will also be focusing on the language of more and less and using a number square to identify patterns, as well as estimating numbers of objects.Children will also be comparing and ordering numbers from 0 – 100 using the symbols < and >  and learning about place value through partitioning.

Handwriting:

Handwriting will continue to be taught in discrete sessions. We will use the Read Write Inc handwriting phrases (attached) to help us with our letter formation. We will also be trying to ensure all the letters are correctly formed and are the right way round.
